"Pinceladas" are brushstrokes in Spanish. I plan to paint a hundred days in a row, a paragraph at a time.
Day 44 ~ Parks
Today I attended with my family the opening of
a park in our city. It was my first time at a ribbon
cutting ceremony and also meeting the mayor. He
mentioned that two other parks had been opened in
the neighborhood recently. We paid a visit to one
of them afterwards, since it was very close. It
would have been a pleasant five minute walk, but
one of us had to take the car, and I offered to do
it. I discovered a small playground for little
children, empty when I arrived. It brought back
memories of a past decade with me and a toddler.
Me lonely. Me grieving. But above all, me being a
mom, playing with my son. I brushed off the
melancholy and delighted in the park's theme:
music. A "wall glockenspiel" consisting of
cylinders of eight different lengths to play a
full scale, two drums placed side by side
resembling bongos, four spheres of different
sizes. Before I knew it, my family arrived and I
returned to the present.
